Chris Derrick Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Sophomore Chris Derrick of the No. 1 men?™s cross country team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 26 ?“ Nov. 1.
Derrick led the Stanford men to the Pac-10 title by winning the individual crown. Stanford scored just 28 points to defeat second-place Oregon who had 45. The Pac-10 title was the 12th in Stanford men?™s cross country history and the first since 2005.
Derrick finished with an 8,000-meter time of 22:35.41, which set a new Pac-10 conference record. He broke the record set just last year by Galen Rupp of Oregon by nearly 20 seconds. Derrick became the fifth Stanford male to win the individual title and first since Ian Dobson in 2003.
This was the third career Stanford/Muscle Milk honor for Derrick. He and the rest of the cross country teams will next travel to Eugene, Ore., on Saturday, Nov. 14, to compete in the NCAA West Regional. The Cardinal will be looking to win the regional title and claim one of the two automatic qualifying spots for the NCAA Championships.
