Junior Jason Castro (Castro Valley, Calif./Castro Valley HS) of the No. 3 Stanford baseball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 21-27.

Castro batted .550 (11-for-20) while starting all five of Stanford's games last week. Behind Castro's big week at the plate, which included his ninth home run of the season, a triple, eight RBI, and three walks, the Cardinal went 4-1 and captured its ninth weekend series of the season by taking two of three from the USC Trojans. Castro's week was highlighted by a 3-for-3 performance in a 7-4 midweek win over Saint Mary's, as well as a 4-for-6, four RBI effort against USC in Saturday's 26-5 victory. Castro hit safely in all five games, extending his season-best hit streak to nine games, and for the week slugged .800, posted an on-base percentage of .577, and did not strike out in 26 plate appearances.

Stanford's 4-1 week improved its overall mark to 25-13-2, and the series win over USC kept the Cardinal tied atop the Pac-10 standings with Arizona State with a 10-5 record.

This is Castro's first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the second for the baseball team in the 2007-08 season. Castro and the rest of the No. 3 Stanford baseball team return to action Monday, April 28, as they visit Santa Clara for a 5 p.m. contest to be televised nationally on CBS College Sports Network.

Also nominated: Russell Brown (Men's Track & Field), Lauren Centrowitz (Women's Track & Field), Lauren Silver (Women's Water Polo), Catharina Wang (Women's Golf), Tabitha Yim (Women's Gymnastics)
