Junior Julia Smit of the third-ranked Stanford women's swimming and diving team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 3-9, 2008.

Smit dominated at the two-day Anteater Shootout hosted by UC Irvine, recording five individual event wins in the 100 free (twice), 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM. More impressively, in a season with far tougher qualifying standards, she recorded NCAA "A" standard times in both the 200 IM (1:56.06) and the 400 IM (4:06.89). She also posted "B" times in her other three victories, while her time of 48.48 in the 100 free moved her into fifth-place on Stanford’s all-time top-10 list for that event.

Smit's effort helped Stanford sweep the two-day event, as the Cardinal defeated all nine schools it faced in head-to-head competition.

This is Smit's first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2008-09 season. Stanford's swimmers are off until the weekend of Nov. 28-30, when they travel to Toronto, Canada for the Bell Invite.

Also nominated: Camille Gandhi (Field Hockey), Anthony Kimble (Football), Ryan Imamura (Men's Soccer), Christen Press (Women's Soccer), Sage Wright (Men's Water Polo) and Foluke Akinradewo (Women's Volleyball)
