Junior Tyler Parker (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill) of the Stanford wrestling team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 2-8.

Parker helped Stanford claim its second win in school history over powerhouse Arizona State on Friday night with a gutsy overtime win at 149 pounds.

With the team down 16-3, Parker, who had suffered a sprain earlier in the day, decided to compete and started a Cardinal rally. Starting with Parker, Stanford won five of the final six bouts and mounted an improbable 13-point comeback to win 20-19.

Wrestling basically on one leg, Parker scored a takedown with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation to tie his bout at three, then recorded an escape in the tiebreaker to claim what proved to be a pivotal 4-3 victory.

This is Parker's first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the first for the wrestling team in the 2008-09 season. The Cardinal returns to action on Sunday, taking on Cal Poly in its final meet of the regular season.

Also nominated: Missy Penna (Softball), Kelly Eaton (Women's Water Polo), Jayne Appel (Women's Basketball), Dana Lindsay (Lacrosse), Chris Derrick (Men's Track and Field), Caitlin Hewitt (Women’s Track and Field), Jason Dunford (Men’s Swimming), Nicole Ourada (Women's Gymnastics), Debbie Chen (Synchronized Swimming), Eva Jellison (Fencing), Sho Nakamori (Men’s Gymnastics), Steve Ziegler (Men’s Golf).
