Junior second baseman Cord Phelps of the Stanford baseball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student Athlete of the Week for the week of April 7-13.

Phelps hit .400 (10-25) with three homers, 13 RBI, a .760 slugging percentage and one stolen base over five games during the week.  He was pivotal in Stanford's two-of-three series victory at Oregon State from April 11-13 as he hit .357 with two homers and seven RBI in the three-game series.  In a 6-4 win on April 12, Phelps drove in a run in each of his final three at bats, including the game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to break a 4-4 tie.

"It's an honor to earn this award," said Phelps.  "We have so many talented players on our baseball team, which makes it easier to do as well.  Everybody pushes each other to take their game to the next level, and I think this mentality has led to much of our success."

Phelps is an All-American candidate and having a tremendous 2008 season for a Cardinal team that is 18-11-1 overall and tied for first place in the Pac-10 with a 6-3 league mark.  Phelps is hitting .376 with five homers and 28 RBI from his leadoff spot in the batting order, where he has started all 30 of the team's contests.

Phelps' selection is the first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of his career.
