Foluke Akinradewo Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Cardinal senior hits .687 and leads Stanford to three wins.

Senior middle blocker Foluke Akinradewo (Plantation, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas HS) of the Cardinal women's volleyball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 1-7, 2008.

The middle blocker helped Stanford to three wins last week, hit .687 over four matches and was named the MVP of the Saint Louis Invitational. She ripped 49 kills in just 67 swings, helping the team to a 3-1 record on the tail end of its 11-day road trip.

In the team's first match at Central Florida, the senior led the team to its first sweep, contributing eight kills while hitting .636. On Friday, she had perhaps the best performance of her career, recording 20 kills on 24 tries without a single error (.833), marking the first time in her career that she has reached 20 kills in just three sets. On Saturday, the player who is on pace to break the NCAA career hitting percentage record hit a career-best .923 against No. 19 Illinois, tallying 12 kills on 13 swings.

Additionally, Akinradewo led the team with 15 blocks over the four matches. On Saturday, she became one of Stanford's top 10 all-time kill leaders, and was named the MVP of the Saint Louis Invitational.

This is Akinradewo's first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2008 season. Stanford opens home action on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion as part of the Stanford Invitational. The Cardinal will meet New Mexico State on Thursday, UC Santa Barbara on Friday and Santa Clara on Saturday.
