Junior Nora Soza has been selected as the Stanford Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 27-Nov. 2. The honor is the first for a Stanford field hockey player this year and first of Soza's career.

Soza's first career shot attempt resulted in the game-winning goal during Stanford's 2-1 upset overtime victory over No. 16 California on Nov. 1. With the win, Stanford secured the No. 2 seed in this week's NorPac Tournament as the Cardinal aims to defend last year's title.

The junior defender from San Jose scored the game-winner at the 73:20 mark of the first overtime session. Soza was positioned perfectly near the endline, received a quick pass and fired home the goal as Cardinal teammates and fans mobbed her on the field in the middle of a driving rainstorm.

The 2006 NorPac Rookie of the Year, Soza was also awarded NorPac Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts.

Also nominated: Toby Gerhart (football), Janson Wigo (men's water polo), Jason Dunford (men's swimming and diving), Mari Chun (women's golf), Laurynne Chetelat (women's cross country), Chris Derrick (men's cross country), Allison Falk (women's soccer), Angela Duckworth (women's swimming and diving).
