Carly Janiga Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Senior Carly Janiga (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Saguaro High School) of the Stanford women?™s gymnastics team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of January 11-17.

Senior Carly Janiga (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Saguaro High School) of the No. 8 Stanford women?™s gymnastics team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of January11-17.

Carly Janiga won the all-around competition, scoring 39.325 points, to lead Stanford to a home-opening 196.025-194.675 victory over Arizona on Sunday at Burnham Pavilion. Janiga, a six-time All-America and the defending Pac-10 all-around champion, has won the all-around in each of the season?™s first two meets.

Against Arizona, Janiga added a floor exercise victory, scoring 9.875, and averaged a meet-high 9.83 points for her four events.

This is Janiga?™s first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the first for the women?™s gymnastics team in the 2009-10 season. Janiga and the Cardinal have a 1-1 overall record heading into Sunday?™s showdown against conference rival and No. 1-ranked UCLA at Burnham Pavilion, at 2 p.m.
