Brad Lawson Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Freshman Brad Lawson (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani School) of the No. 6 Stanford men's volleyball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for January 26-February 1.
Lawson, a 6-foot-7 outside hitter, was the key to Stanford's dramatic 26-30, 24-30, 33-31, 31-29, 15-8 victory over Long Beach State on Friday at Maples Pavilion. Lawson had a team season-high and collegiate career-high 27 kills, hit .438 and had 11 digs as Stanford rallied from a two-set deficit and fought off three match points before rallying for the win.
With Stanford trailing in the third set, 30-29, Lawson kept the Cardinal alive with a kill, and broke the tie and won the set with two more. Including an 11-kill performance in a 30-25, 30-23, 28-30, 30-28 victory over UC San Diego on Saturday, Lawson totaled 38 kills, hit .386 and had 17 digs over the weekend.
This is Lawson's first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the first for the men's volleyball team in the 2009 season. Lawson and the Cardinal are 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation heading into weekend matches at UCLA and UC Irvine.
