Senior Brent Milleville of the Stanford baseball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for May 4-10, 2009.
Milleville was a run-producing machine during a week-long power display, batting .474 (9-for-19) with six runs scored, four home runs - including two grand slams - and 16 RBI in five games. The senior first baseman slugged 1.105 and had an on-base percentage of .545 to help Stanford split a pair of midweek games before winning its weekend, non-conference set with visiting New Mexico - a 33-win club that is second in the Mountain West Conference. Milleville collected 11 RBI over the final two games against the Lobos, with three homers. He hit a pair of homers in the Cardinal's 17-5 victory Saturday and drove in a career-high seven runs - Stanford's first seven RBI game since Sean Ratliff did so April 6, 2007 at Arizona State. He followed that performance with a grand slam during Sunday's 9-4 Stanford win - his second grand slam of the week (also Wednesday at Santa Clara), third of the season and fourth of his career. Milleville went 5-for-6 with runners in scoring position during the week, while he also stole his sixth base of the season.
Milleville's week was part of an extended torrid stretch in which he is batting .391 (34-for-87) with 11 homers and 40 RBI in his last 23 contests. He is 43-for-113 (.381) with 14 homers, 47 RBI, a .778 slugging percentage and a .446 on-base mark since March 25 (31 games).
The slugging first baseman is now batting .331 overall on the 2009 season, while he ranks among the Pac-10 offensive leaders for home runs (4th - 14), RBI (3rd - 50) and slugging percentage (7th - .649).
This is Milleville's first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of 2009 season.
