Junior Missy Penna (Miami, Fla./Southwest HS) of the Stanford softball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of May 12-May 18.

Penna was phenomenal for the Cardinal over the weekend, throwing four complete games in less than 72 hours to lead Stanford to the Amherst Regional Championship. Penna struck out 39 batters in 28 innings, including her 400th of the season. She is just the eighth player in Pac-10 history, and the first at Stanford to strike out 400 in a single season. She finished the weekend with a pristine 0.00 ERA, throwing three shutouts and allowing no earned runs. In the regional title game, Penna struck out nine and threw her second no-hitter of the season to carry the Cardinal to its fifth regional championship.

This is Penna's third Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of 2007-08. The Cardinal meets Texas A&M Saturday at 8 p.m. (CT) in the College Station Super Regional.

Also nominated: Erica McLain (Women's Track & Field), Wopamo Osaisai (Men's Track & Field), Sihwan Kim (Men's Golf), Jason Castro (Baseball), Lindsay Burdette (Women's Tennis).
