STANFORD, Calif. -- Senior Cameron Wilson of the men's golf was selected as the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of
Wilson tied for the individual medal and led the Stanford men’s golf team to a fifth place finish (295-287-290-872) at the Olympia Fields/ Fighting Illini Invitational, held at the Olympia Fields Country Club North Course.
Wilson, trailing by three shots entering play on Sunday, played an even-par round of 70, although not without its ups and downs. Wilson birdied four holes, No. 1 at par-5, 626 yards, No. 4 at par-4, 40 yards, No. 7 at par-5, 450 yards and No. 15 at par-5, 576 yards. After each par he bogied the next hole, leaving him even for the day. Still it was enough for the victory which was keyed by a -5 round of 65 on Saturday to charge back into contention following +5 round of 75 on Friday.
On Saturday, Wilson logged five birdies and 13 pars in a beautiful round that also saw him birdie hole No. 1, the longest hole on the course.
This is Wilson’s first Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the first for the men’s soccer team since Patrick Rodgers earned the honor in 2011.
Also nominated: Clemence Couteau (Field Hockey), Tyler Gaffney (football), JJ Koval (Men’s Soccer), Taylor Uhl (Women’s Soccer), Rachel Williams (Women’s Volleyball).
