STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women’s gymnast Taylor Rice was named the Muscle Milk Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance this past weekend in helping the Cardinal defeat No. 8 Georgia.
It is the first honor for Rice and the women’s gymnastics team this year.
The Las Vegas, Nev. native won the individual title on floor with a collegiate-best 9.900 and is quickly establishing herself as a top all-arounder, claiming the individual honor with a 39.325. Rice also had a strong performance on beam, tying her collegiate best of 9.875 and placing second.
Her routine on floor was especially clutch with Stanford holding a slim 147.075-147.000 edge heading into the final rotation. Her performance in the fifth position sealed the victory for the Cardinal – its first top-10 victory on the year.
Stanford will remain at home next week, playing host to Arizona and Sacramento State on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
