Sophomore Kristyn Williams (Grand Prairie, Texas/Mansfield Timberview High School) of the No. 9 Stanford women’s track and field team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of January 13-19.
Williams broke the Stanford indoor record for the 400 meters, and broke a meet record, with a time of 53.39 at the UW Indoor Preview on the 307-meter flat Dempsey Indoor track in Seattle. She followed with a 53.1 relay leg to lead Stanford to victory in the 4x400.
Williams overcame a broken foot suffered while running the 4x400 at the NCAA West Prelims last spring. She bounced back by breaking the Stanford mark of 53.57 by Amber Purnell, and the meet record of 55.41 by Aimee Teteris, both from 2006. Williams won the race by 2.6 seconds and her time was the sixth-fastest, including outdoors, ever at Stanford.
This is Williams' first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the first for the women’s track and field team in the 2014 season.
Also nominated: Kristie Ahn (Women's Tennis), Darian Brooks (Men's Track and Field), Ryan Mango (Wrestling), Akash Modi (Men's Gymnastics), Chasson Randle (Men's Basketball), Maciek Romanowicz (Men's Tennis), Karlie Samuelson (Women's Basketball), Kristina Vaculik (Women's Gymnastics).
