Kong Makes Muscle Milk History

STANFORD, Calif. -- Sophomore Vivian Kong, a Stanford women’s fencer, was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 17-23.

In true March Madness fashion, Kong made history by becoming the first Stanford fencer to claim the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor. The sport had been among those pictured on the side of the milk carton for missing teams in Muscle Milk history. That was until this week when Kong put together an outstanding performance to win the NCAA Individual Championship in the women’s epee.

Kong and teammate Francesca Bassa found themselves squaring off the in the championship bout on Friday, March 21 in Columbus. Kong was able to pull out the 15-12 victory over the four-time All-American to win the school’s 11th individual national championship. She became the fifth women’s fencer to win a title and the second to do so in epee.

The 2014 season for Kong ended in glory as she put together an impressive resume with a national championship, a NCAA West Regional title and overall record of 82-11.

Overall Stanford placed ninth in the team standings at the NCAA Championships with 82 points. The team came home with three first team All-Americans, including a national champion in Kong.
