Harbin Named #GoStanford Student-Athlete of the Week

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford field hockey’s Kelsey Harbin was named the #GoStanford Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance this past weekend in victories against Central Michigan and California.

Harbin, a human biology major, anchored the Stanford defense that did not allow a shot or penalty corner against Central Michigan and limited California’s offense to one goal. While a Cardinal player was serving a seven-minute penalty in the second half against the Golden Bears, Harbin stepped up big, making multiple plays to eliminate potential scoring opportunities.

Harbin was named the NorPac Defensive Player of the Week for her standout performance.

Stanford has led the nation in goals-against average and save percentage every week this season and remained in the top spot this week, posting a 0.43 GAA and .905 save percentage.

Harbin is the fourth #GoStanford Student-Athlete of the Week in 2014 after receiving the most votes in the weekly @GoStanford Twitter poll. Among the four Cardinal student-athletes to choose from, #VoteHarbin received the most votes.

Harbin is the third field hockey player to earn the weekly honor after teammates Lauren Becker and Alex McCawley earned honors earlier this year.

It is the first time Stanford has had two or more Stanford student-athlete of the week awards since 2010 when Stephanie Byrne (Oct. 4) and Becky Dru (Nov. 8) claimed honors.

Fans can participate in the weekly poll on Mondays with results revealed Tuesdays.

Also Nominated: Madi Bugg, women’s volleyball; Corey Baird, men’s soccer; Stephanie Amack, women’s soccer
