St. Louis, MO - Kansas guard Kirk Hinrich sprained his left ankle late in the first half of Thursday night's Midwest Regional game against Holy Cross and was helped off the floor.

Hinrich was not on the bench at the start of the second half, and Kansas said he would not return to the game. X-rays were negative, and the school said his status for possible future tournament games would be evaluated later.

Hinrich, who made the All-Big 12 team, had nine points, four rebounds and three assists before leaving. He was hurt when he landed awkwardly after hitting a follow shot that tied the score at 35 with 37 seconds to go before the break.

With the help of a team trainer, Hinrich slowly made his way to the locker room but didn't put any weight on his left leg.

Hinrich averages 15.4 points for top-seeded Kansas.
