2012 Season: Outdoors - Ran 4:38.62 in the 1,500 at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational ... clocked 2:19.71 in the 800 at the same meet ... earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honors. Indoors - Did not compete.
2011 Season: Outdoors - Ran a season best in the 1,500 meters of 4:54.62 at the Stanford Invitational. Indoors - Did not compete.
2010 Season: Outdoors - Competed in the 3,000 steeplechase at the Big Meet, placing fifth. Indoors - Did not compete.
Cross Country: Ran three races in 2012 and two in 2010.
High School: The Gloucester record holder at every distance from 400 meters through the mile ... AAU All-American in the 800 and the national champion in the 1,500 meters in 2007 ... all-state selection in cross country in 2008 ... best times include 2:14.94 in the 800, 4:45.16 in the 1,500 and 18:19.00 in the 5K.
Personal: Majoring in economics ... parents are Lyle and Kathleen Varnell ... mother was a field hockey player at James Madison ... father played football at East Tennessee State and was the whitewater open national canoe racing champion in 1995 ... has an older brother, Matthew.
