Idzik attended Wake Forest, where he graduated in 2014 with a degree in mathematical business. He also minored in global trade and commerce after a sabbatical term studying politics and economics at Cambridge.

Idzik’s father, John Jr., served as general manager of the New York Jets. John spent six seasons as the vice president of football administration with the Seattle Seahawks. John played college football at Dartmouth while Idzik’s grandfather, John Sr., was the head football coach at the University of Detroit in the 1960s and also held assistant coaching positions in the NFL, CFL and college football.
