- Played at Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, Calif. for head coach Chris Saunders
- Originally played lineback for the Bears until his senior year
- Also earned two varsity letters in baseball
- After moving to tight end as a senior, caught 38 passes for 434 yards as a senior with two touchdowns
