Garrett Heath is in his second season as a volunteer assistant after one of the most decorated careers in Stanford history. Heath was a nine-time All-American during his time on The Farm and won a national title as a member of the 2007 distance medley relay.
In addition to coaching, Heath is pursuing a professional career as a runner. This past summer he competed in the USA Track and Field Championships in the 1,500 meters.
In 2009, Heath was the national runner-up in the 1,500 meters during the track season and earned an All-America honor for his 33rd place NCAA finish in cross country. He also continued his season into the summer competing at the U.S. National Championships in the 1,500 meters. In 2008 he was a semifinalist in the 1,500 at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Heath will continue to train under head coach Jason Dunn as he pursues a professional running career.
Heath gained coaching experience during this past year. He assisted the cross country team with a pair of nationally ranked teams and track teams that earned 10 All-America honors in the distance events. He will have the opportunity to work with many of his former teammates, including his younger brother, Elliott, a four-time All-American at Stanford.
Heath is 2009 Stanford graduate with a bachelor of science in management science and engineering. He is currently completing his Master's in management science and engineering. Formerly of Winona, Minn., Heath now resides in Palo Alto.
