Mary Merg is in her second season as an intern with the Stanford women's basketball program in 2016-17.

A standout guard for Wisconsin-Whitewater, Merg was a two-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree and four-year letterwinner for the Warhawks from 2010-14. She hit two buzzer beaters as a junior – one at the end of regulation to tie the game and one at the end of overtime to win it – during her team's 64-62 victory over Amherst (Mass.) in the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament semifinals. The plays were No. 1 in SportsCenter's Top 10 that evening.

Merg, who spent the 2014-15 season as an assistant coach at Division III St. Mary's (Minn.), was nominated by UW-Whitewater head coach Keri Carollo for the 2015 Women's Basketball Coaches Association "So You Want To Be A Coach" program.

After completing her application, she was accepted and was one of 58 women invited to a three-day workshop held from April 3-5 in conjunction with the WBCA National Convention in Tampa, Fla., where she interviewed for the open position at Stanford.

While with the Cardinal, Merg is continuing to pursue a master's degree in counseling by taking online courses through Concordia University Wisconsin.
