No stranger to Bay Area collegiate athletics, Brownfield joins Stanford after spending nearly four years at Saint Mary’s College. He started as the Director of Communications before being promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. He served as the primary media contact for men’s basketball and covered a pair of NCAA Tournament Second Round appearances with the Gaels a No. 5 seed. In addition to his men’s basketball roles, Brownfield oversaw the entire athletic communications department at Saint Mary’s, and covered indoor/beach volleyball and softball. He also served as a play-by-play broadcaster for men’s/women’s soccer, men’s/women’s basketball, baseball, and softball, and served as an emcee during various award shows and fundraising events on campus.

On the broadcasting side, Brownfield actively fills-in on FoxSports AM 1280 for the Stockton Ports and has called two national championship games (NAIA men’s soccer), and 11 conference championship games across various collegiate levels.

Brownfield was hired by Saint Mary's College after working at his alma mater, Menlo College, where he was the Sports Information Coordinator for three years (2017-19). While at Menlo, he was named the Sheri Pine GSAC SID of the Year in 2019 for his efforts in media relations and broadcasting at Menlo and within the conference. Along with his traditional media relations duties, Brownfield also was the "Voice of the Oaks" on all home broadcasts.

During the 2017 summer, Brownfield served as the Broadcast/Media Relations Assistant for the Hagerstown Suns, A-level affiliate of the Washington Nationals in the South Atlantic League. While with the Suns, he served as the #2 broadcaster for all home games and assisted in the creation of game-day stat packs and lineup cards.

Brownfield graduated summa cum laude from Menlo College in December of 2016 with a degree in sports management.
