John Platz

Longtime Stanford radio voice and former Cardinal basketball player John Platz is the sideline reporter for football broadcasts and color analyst for men's basketball. Platz has had a variety of Stanford radio roles since 1988, including 25 years as color analyst on Cardinal basketball broadcasts (1989-2014), two years as the play-by-play voice of the NCAA champion Stanford baseball team (1988 and 1989), and nearly two decades as fill-in play-by-play announcer on Stanford football and basketball broadcasts (1993-2010). The San Marino, California, native was a letterman point guard on Stanford basketball teams in the early 1980s, graduating in 1984 with a degree in economics and earning election into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He later received joint J.D. and MBA degrees in 1989 from Stanford. A longtime Bay Area attorney as well as broadcaster, Platz currently serves as senior counsel at Cisco Systems in San Jose.
