Tyler Friedrich is in his eighth year at Stanford and currently serves as the Marie and Alex Shipman Associate Athletics Director, Applied Performance. In this role, he oversees the Sports Performance, Sports Science, Sports Nutrition, and Equipment Services departments, and serves on DAPER's Leadership Team. He is also responsible for designing and implementing sports performance programs for the women’s volleyball team.
Previously, Friedrich served as the Marie and Alex Shipman Director of Sports Performance and Applied Sports Science, where he had oversight over all strength and conditioning and sports science efforts for Stanford's Olympic Sports. He was also responsible for designing and implementing sports performance programs for women's volleyball, beach volleyball, women’s rowing, and men’s gymnastics.
Before coming to Stanford, Friedrich spent three and a half years at Arizona State University, where he assisted with the football strength and conditioning program and worked with various other sports teams. He also directed all aspects of the Catapult athlete GPS system for the football team and was responsible for sport technology integration for the sports performance department.
Prior to his time at Arizona State, Friedrich worked as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Dayton, where he assisted with numerous sports programs and implemented strength and conditioning programs for several others.
Friedrich earned both his undergraduate degree in exercise physiology (2010) and graduate degree in exercise science (2012) from the University of Dayton. He holds certifications with USA Weightlifting and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
