Stanford Golf Course Renovation Project

Coming spring 2028

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford University is scheduled to break ground on a comprehensive renovation of the Stanford Golf Course Clubhouse to enhance the overall experience for members, guests, and the campus community. The project is expected to be completed in April 2028, with the course remaining open during renovation.

Since the original construction of the clubhouse, most improvements that have occurred have been cosmetic in nature. The project will elevate the experience of patrons from the moment they arrive at the course through checkout, while ensuring facilities meet accessibility and seismic requirements.

The new clubhouse will feature a complete redesign of the existing infrastructure while balancing innovation with tradition. The existing central hall, which is currently used for dining, will be restored to match its original construction from 1930. The golf shop will return to its original location in the central hall. Two new wings will be constructed to blend into the original central hall element, including a second-story open terrace, giving patrons spectacular views of campus and the Bay Area.

Stanford Golf Course opened in 1930 and is viewed as one of the most prestigious on a college campus in the country. It was designed by famed architects George C. Thomas and Billy Bell Jr., and renovated by John Harbottle in 2008. Both nationally ranked men’s and women’s golf programs call the course home, and it has been the site of numerous NCAA Regionals, conference championships, U.S Open Qualifiers, and more.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where is the Pro Shop during renovation?
The Pro Shop is operating from a temporary trailer at 188 Electioneer Road, near the current pickleball court area. Signs throughout the entrance will direct you there from Electioneer Road.

Is the golf course open?
Yes — all 18 holes are open throughout the renovation. If any temporary hole closure is required, you will be notified by email at least two weeks in advance.

What is the modified routing and why?
During the Surge Space period, play begins on Hole #2 (the current second hole) and finishes on Hole #1. This adjustment is necessary to accommodate the operational hub at the Electioneer Road location. A starter is stationed at the first tee and signage guides the route throughout the course.

Where do I park?
Parking is available along Electioneer Road and in Lot L27. A-frame signs at the entrance will indicate real-time availability. A parking staff member will be on-site during peak hours to assist.

Is food and beverage available?
Yes. A food and beverage trailer will operate adjacent to the Pro Shop trailer at 188 Electioneer Road. Options will be more limited than the full restaurant experience that will be available in the new clubhouse.

Will my membership benefits change?
No. All membership benefits remain in effect. If any specific amenity requires a temporary modification — such as locker access — you will receive individual advance notice with options and timelines.

Is the Golf Learning Center open?
Yes. The Golf Learning Center remains fully operational throughout the renovation. Lessons, club fittings, clinics, and programming will all proceed as scheduled.

When will the new clubhouse be finished?
The project is expected to be completed in April 2028. We will share regular updates on the timeline.

If I want an electric cart, do I need to do anything differently?
Yes — to help us have your cart ready, please indicate your cart request in the notes/comments section when booking your tee time online. This allows our staff to stage carts appropriately before you arrive.
