STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford University Softball team swept a doubleheader from Ohio University (7-17) on Thursday afternoon at the Stanford Softball Complex. The #7 Cardinal (25-4) took game one by a 21-0 score, then took game two by a 4-0 margin.

In the first game, Stanford scored scored twice in the first inning, then scored a school record 19 runs in the second as the team scored the most runs in school history against a Division I opponent. The previous mark of 18 runs runs was recorded against Saint Mary's on Feb. 14, 1999. The offensive stars for Stanford were two freshmen, Sarah Beeson and Jessica Mendoza. Beeson, a first baseman from Tucson, Ariz., went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored while Mendoza, a centerfielder from Camarillo, Calif., went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Meanwhile, seniors Marcy Crouch and Becky Blevins combined to throw a no-hitter at the Bobcats. The no-hitter by Stanford was the pitching staff's fifth this season.

The Cardinal scored a single run in the first and then added three more in the fifth to take the 4-0 victory in game two. Robin Walker's RBI single scored Jennie Foyle with Stanford's first run. With Stanford leading 2-0, Walker had another clutch base hit, a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth, that plated two more Stanford runs to provide the final margin of victory.

Crouch (13-3), got the victory in game two as she pitched 6.2 innings and gave up just three hits. With the 8.2 scoreless innings that she tossed today, Crouch has now thrown 43 consecutive scoreless innings.
