Women's Soccer Program Signs Banner Class
Cardinal net three members of the U-18 U.S. National Team.

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's soccer program has completedperhaps its best recruiting class ever. Following an eighth NCAAtournament appearance in the last nine years, the Cardinal women'ssoccer team has attracted some of the premier prep players in thenation. The six member class of 2003 is expected to be ranked among thetop five classes in the nation by several soccer publications.
Headlining the group are three members of the Under-18 Women's NationalTeam: Allyson Marquand (Irvine, CA), Becky Myers (St. Charles, IL), andMarcia Wallis (Los Gatos, CA). In addition, Kelsey Carlson (CitrusHeights, CA) and Callie Withers (Los Altos Hills, CA) are members of theNational Pool, which contributes players to the National Teams.Finally, Katherine Harrington (Fort Worth, TX) was a finalist for theprestigious Davey O'Brien Award, given annually to the top high schoolathlete in Texas, male or female.
"What impresses me so much about this class is not just their ability onthe soccer field, but more importantly what kind of people they are,"said Head Coach Steve Swanson. "Along with being excellent students,they are extremely hard workers, have tremendously competitive attitudesand are positive players, always putting the team first. I have alwaysmaintainted that with good people you can accomplish great things. Whenyou add this group to the core of returning players, you can't help butbe excited about the future of our program."
