STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Tim Young broke out of a scoring slump with a season-high 23 points, and No. 4 Stanford beat Oregon 77-59 Monday night for its eighth straight win.
The 7-foot-2 Young came in averaging eight points and had just two in hislast two games while battling back soreness.
But the Cardinal (12-2, 2-0 Pac-10) got the ball to him, Young went to thebasket, and opposing centers Mike Carson and Chris Christoffersen couldn't stophis short turnaround jumpers and hook shots. Young also had 12 rebounds.
Mark Madsen added 17 points, Athur Lee 15 and Peter Sauer and Kris Weems had11 apiece as Stanford's five starters produced all the team's points againstOregon (9-2, 1-1).
It was the Ducks' 11th straight loss to Stanford at Maples Pavilion and denied Oregon's bid to complete it first road sweep of the Bay area schools in 25 years. Oregon was coming off a 71-69 overtime win at California on Saturday.
Alex Scales' 16 points led Oregon, but was only 4-of-14 from the field. Hisfrustrating night was epitomized in the final two minutes when he blew a dunkoff an alley-oop pass.
Darius Wright and Frederick Jones added 12 points apiece for Oregon, whichshot just 25 percent in the first half and fell behind by 14 points.
Oregon scored the first two points of the game but the went cold, missingnine of its first 10 shots and allowing the Cardinal to break on top 12-2. FloHartenstien's basket broke up the run but Peter Sauer then hit a 3-pointer,touching off a 10-2 burst en route to 34-20 halftime lead.
The Ducks tried to mount a rally in the second half, but Stanford never hada scoring drought and fended off any serious challenges.
