STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Arthur Lee scored 12 of his 15 points in the final5:31 as No. 3 Stanford, which played most of the second half withoutfoul-plagued center Tim Young, defeated Washington 67-60 Saturday for its 13thstraight win.
The game was tied at 50 when Lee, who has made a habit of late-game heroicsthe last two seasons, took over. In addition to his two 3-pointers in theclosing minutes, he had a pair of steals to undermine Washington rallies.
Mark Madsen had 20 points and nine rebounds for Stanford (17-2, 7-0 Pac-10).Young had 10 points before fouling out with 2:38 left. He played just eightminutes in the second half.
Senque Carey had 16 points and Todd MacCulloch had 14 points and 12 reboundsfor Washington (10-7, 3-4), which had a three-game winning streak snapped. TheHuskies have lost six straight at Stanford.
Trailing by five at halftime, the Cardinal scored eight straight pointsearly in the second half to go ahead 32-31. The lead changed hands three timesin the next few minutes, before Stanford took a 41-38 lead with 14:30 left on along 3-pointer by Peter Sauer - who pumped his left arm in the air tocelebrate.
But Young picked up his fourth foul 14 seconds later, and MacCulloch tookadvantage. He scored six points in the next 4 1/2 minutes, and Washington regainedthe lead at 46-45 on Carey's layup with 9:37 left.
The Huskies built a 50-46 lead with 7:32 remaining, but Stanford scored thenext nine points - a finger roll by David Moseley, a layup by Kris Weems, a3-pointer by Lee and two free throws by Weems following a steal by Lee - totake a 55-50 lead with 4:56 left.
Washington pulled back within a point with 2:38 remaining, when Carey hittwo free throws as Young fouled out.
But Madsen, who has struggled from the free throw line all season, hit twofree throws and Lee hit a 3-pointer with 54 seconds. Lee stole the ball onWashington's next possession and hit two free throws to give Stanford a 64-56lead.
The first half featured several streaks.
Stanford scored the first eight points of the game, holding Washingtonscoreless for the opening 3:22. The Cardinal were still leading 16-9 when theywent cold from the field, going without a point for 4:37 as the Huskies scored10 straight points for a 19-16 lead.
Washington built its lead to 27-18 with 3:56 left, and led 29-24 athalftime. MacCulloch had eight points and eight rebounds in the half, whileMadsen scored 12 points in the first half for Stanford.
Stanford went 0-for-4 on 3-pointers in the first half and did not shoot afoul shot. The Huskies were 0-for-5 on 3-pointers in the half.
