LAKE NATOMA - The Stanford men's varsity eight finished second to California at the California Collegiate Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma on Saturday, April 17. Stanford fell short in its quest to defend its 1998 California State Championship crown as they finished five seconds behind Cal.
The Stanford women's varsity eight also had a strong showing at Lake Natoma, finishing fourth behind USC, San Diego State, and California State University Sacramento.
All six of the Stanford boats entered in the regatta qualified for the Grand Finals in their respective divisions. Stanford won the bronze medal with a third-place finish in the women's novice eight competition. The Stanford men's freshmen boat finished fourth in the novice eight race with a time of 6:23.7. The Stanford women's varsity and novice four's finished fourth and sixth, respectively.
Stanford hosts a multi-team regatta this Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25 at Redwood Shores. Women's teams expected to compete include, USC, Oregon State, Kansas, Michigan State, UC Davis, California State University Sacramento, and Santa Clara. The Cardinal men will race against Oregon State on Saturday and Cal State Sacramento on Sunday. Racing is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
