Men's Tennis Tops Cal, 6-1

STANFORD, Calif .- The Stanford men's tennis team improved its record to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in the Pac-10 as the Cardinal defeated Cal, 6-1, today at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Today is the first of six straight home matches for Stanford, including this weekend's matches with Arizona State on Friday (1:30 pm) and Arizona on Saturday (Noon).

The Cardinal swept the doubles point to start the match with a slight lineup switch. Ryan Wolters and K.J. Hippensteel, the sixth ranked duo in the country, moved to number two doubles where they won 9-7. At number one doubles, Geoff Abrams and Alex Kim defeated Adrian Barnes and Chris Santoso, 8-5. Making their debut as a doubles team, Stanford's Scotty Scott and David Hauser topped David Tzou and Chris Lewis, 8-3.

In singles, senior captain Ryan Wolters, from San Jose, dropped the first set 4-6 to Adrian Barnes, but rebounded in the second and third to give up just two games, winning the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Wolters is now 15-3 at number one singles this season. The Bears' lone point came at number six singles where Cal's Lewis defeated Ali Ansari, 6-2, 7-6.

Stanford remains at home on Friday, hosting Arizona State at 1:30 pm and on Saturday against Arizona at Noon.
