STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Arthur Lee had 17 points and No. 6 Stanford,rebounding from a rare home loss to Connecticut, finally broke out of aseason-long slump at the foul line to edge No. 9 UCLA 77-73 Thursday night.
David Moseley added 13 points, Tim Young had 12 and Mark Madsen had 11points and 12 rebounds for Stanford, which came into the game hitting just 67percent of its foul shots but went 19-of-21 at the line down the stretch.
Baron Davis had 23 points and JaRon Rush added 20 for the Bruins (17-6, 8-4Pac-10), who had three starters foul out.
With the win, Stanford (20-4, 10-1) got its fifth straight 20-win season andstayed on track for its first league title since the conference expanded to 10teams in 1978-79.
The game was halted temporarily midway through the second half after a fanshined a laser in the eyes of UCLA's Jerome Moiso as he hit two free throws. Anenraged Stanford coach Mike Montgomery took the public address microphone toberate the fan.
"Get that thing out of here, that's nonsense," Montgomery said. "This isa game between two college basketball teams. There's no place for that."
When Stanford lost at Arizona on Jan. 28, Wildcats coach Lute Olson made asimilar plea for a fan to put away a laser as the Cardinal shot free throwslate in the game.
Stanford, coming off the loss to Connecticut that ended its 14-game homewinning streak, outrebounded the Bruins 47-36.
Trailing by two points at halftime, the Cardinal were still down 35-30 whenthey began a 16-6 run with a 3-pointer by Peter Sauer. Young had four pointsduring the run, which led to a 46-41 Stanford lead.
The Bruins came back to tie the game 48-48 on a layup by Davis with 8:40left, a few seconds after Montgomery took the mike to warn the laser-totingfan.
Lee responded with a three-point play, and the Bruins never caught up again.
UCLA got back within a point three times, including at 65-64 on a 3-pointerby Earl Watson from right in front of the Bruins bench with 1:38 remaining andat 67-66 with 1:08 left on two free throws by Moiso.
But Stanford, which has struggled at the foul line all season, was nearlyperfect in the final minutes. Madsen made two with 41 seconds left and Leeadded two more with 19 seconds remaining to give the Cardinal a 71-66 lead.
Davis hit a long 3-pointer with 14 seconds left to pull UCLA within twopoints, but Stanford hit six straight free throws - four by Lee - in the final13 seconds to clinch the victory.
