Stanford Men's Tennis Sweeps Arizona, 6-0

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford men's tennis team improved its record to 15-2 overall and 6-1 conference as the Cardinal defeated Pac-10 opponent Arizona, 6-0, at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Due to weather conditions the men's doubles matches were canceled, but the rain did not stop the Cardinal from dominating the singles. While the number three and number six matches were moved to the Indoor court, Stanford remained on top for their sixth Pac-10 win.

In singles, senior captain Ryan Wolters beat Arizona's Adnan Novo, 6-2, 6-1, to start the Cardinal on their way to another victory. Junior Geoff Abrams won his first set, 6-1, but the match was stopped due to an Arizona injury. The number three match was finished up inside with freshamn K.J. Hippensteel beating junior Michel Stopa in two close sets; 7-5, 7-6. Stanford's Alex Kim and Scotty Scott had no trouble defeating their opponents, each in two sets; 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-4 respectively. To close the match, sophomore Ali Ansari stayed with the team's tradition of straight-set victories, he topped Arizona freshamn Jari Niskala 7-6, 6-2.

Stanford concludes its regular home season next week , hosting Pepperdine on Tuesday, April 13 (1:30 pm), USC on Friday, April 16 (1:30 pm) and Saturday, April 17 (noon).
