STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Kris Weems hit six 3-pointers and scored 20 pointsas No. 6 Stanford eased to an 82-58 win over Elon College in Monday night'sfirst round of the Stanford Invitational.
The Cardinal (8-2) will face William & Mary or Santa Clara in thechampionship game Tuesday night.
With his six 3-pointers, Weems moved into second place on the school careerlist with 159. He surpassed Terry Taylor, who had 156 3-pointers from 1985-89,and now trails only the 241 hit by Dion Cross from 1992-96.
David Moseley hit four 3-pointers and scored 15 points for Stanford, whichalso got 15 points from Tim Young and 13 from Mark Madsen. Stanford was11-of-30 overall on 3-pointers.
Morgan Bell had 20 points and Brendon Rowell added 15 for Elon (3-6), whichis in just its second year in Division I.
The Fightin' Christians, playing their first game in California and theirfirst against a Pac-10 school, were outrebounded 37-23 by the Cardinal. Missingtwo injured forwards, including leading rebounder Clint Walker, Elon was at ahuge size disadvantage against Stanford.
And when Elon tried to compensate for its lack of height by crowding themiddle, that opened up the perimeter for Stanford's 3-point shooters.
Stanford built an early 17-6 lead and used an 8-0 run, capped by Weems'sixth 3-pointer, right before halftime to build a 42-26 lead. Weems had 18 ofhis 20 points in the first half.
The Cardinal, playing their first home game since Nov. 20, maintained acomfortable lead throughout the second half. Stanford had played six straightgames away from home, including two at New York's Madison Square Garden in thePreseason NIT.
