HOUSTON - The Stanford womenis golf team recorded a season-high 318 in the final round of the NCAA West Regional, dropping three spots to finish in fifth place.
Along with the other top-11finishers, the Cardinal qualified for the NCAA Championships, to be held May 19-22 in Tulsa, Okla. But Stanford was looking to do more than qualify. The Pac-10 Champions were not able to hold their first-round lead, but only dropped three strokes behind Arizona heading into todayis final round.
Unfortunately, the Cardinalis final round included 28 bogies, eight doubles and one triple, set off only by three birdies.
USC posted a two-under 286 this afternoon on the par-72, 6,119-yard Pine Forest Golf Course to surpass Arizona and Stanford for the West Regional victory. The Women of Troy tallied an 879 to win by 11 shots. The Wildcats (890), Arizona State (893) and TCU (904) finished ahead of the Cardinalis three-day 909 total.
Arizonais Jenna Daniels won individual medalist honors with a five-under 211. Stanford was led by junior Julie Dunn, who finished ninth with a five-over 221. Stephanie Keeveris 46th-place finish marked her first non-top-15 finish of her Cardinal career, breaking a string of 20 collegiate tournaments.
