Field Hockey Team Wins NorPac Opener

Sept. 11, 1999

ST. LOUIS, MO. - Stanford began pursuit of its second consecutive NorPac Conference title Saturday with a 2-1 win over Southwest Missouri State in St. Louis.

The Bears opened the scoring with a goal from Mollie Reichard with 26:27 remaining in the first half. But Stanford senior Lindsey Dunagan (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Country Day) tied it up six minutes later off an assist from senior Mallory Chambers (Tulsa, OK/Holland Hall School). Dunagan, who scored four goals all last year, has now scored in three straight games, all of which have been played in her hometown. With 13:27 reamining in the game, freshman Amanda Billmyer (Berwyn, PA/The Episcopal Academy) scored the game-winner. Another freshman, Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA/San Pascual HS) got the assist.

The win ended a four-game losing streak, and moved the Cardinal to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the NorPac. Southwest Missouri State fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference. Stanford defeated the Bears in the NorPac championship game a year ago.

The Cardinal returns to action Monday at St. Louis University in another NorPac game.
