ST. LOUIS, MO. - Stanford's women's field hockey team improved to 2-0 in NorPac Conference play with a 3-0 shutout of St. Louis on the Billikens' home field Monday afternoon.
Stanford senior Lindsey Dunagan (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Country Day) finished a great trip home. She scored in each of the Cardinal's four games in St. Louis to match her season goal total from a year ago. Dunagan's goal with 14:29 remaining in the first half gave the Cardinal (3-4, 2-0) insurance, but Stanford didn't need it. The Cardinal defense held St. Louis (1-6, 0-2) to only four shots, and sophomore goalie Rebecca Shapiro (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) made one save to get her first shutout of the season.
Freshman Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA/San Pascual HS) provided the rest of the Cardinal offense, scoring her second and third goals of the season. Banuelos scored the first goal only 90 seconds into the game, and added another with 6:12 remaining in the second half.
The Cardinal returns to action Saturday when California comes to the Farm for a non-league game. The contest between the only two undefeated teams in NorPac play begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Varsity Turf Field. The two teams will play their league game on Oct. 24 in Berkeley.
