Davidson Tops Field Hockey Team 2-1

Oct. 11, 1999

STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual HS) scored for Stanford 98 seconds into the game, but Davidson came back with two goals to defeat Stanford 2-1 Monday afternoon at Stanford's Varsity Turf Field. The Wildcats didn't take a shot in the second half and were out-shot 20-7 for the game, but held on to win the final game of a three-game California road trip.

Banuelos scored unassisted at 33:22 of the first half, but Wildcat senior Lisa Holthaus scored 10 minutes later to tie the game. Holthaus was assisted by junior Lea Jaeger, a graduate of nearby Los Altos High School. Freshman Alex Rogers scored the game-winner with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman Jessica Burton got the assist. Stanford out-shot Davidson 9-0 in the second half, but the Wildcat defense held. Senior goalie Nancy Livingston made 12 saves on the game, and the Wildcats added three defensive saves from field players.

The Cardinal returns to action Thursday at Temple (3:30 ET) to begin a four-game Philadelphia road trip. Davidson next plays Duke in Chapel Hill on Oct. 23.
