PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - Senior Julie Gwozdz (Weston, MA/Phillips Academy) and junior Michelle Scott (Chicago, IL/Latin School) scored to lead Stanford to a 2-1 win over Temple Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia, Penn. Stanford improves to 5-6 on the year by winning the first of four games in four days in Pennsylvania. The Owls fall to 4-10.
Gwozdz put Stanford ahead, scoring off a penalty corner for her second goal of the year early in the second half. She was set up by senior Sarah Medeiros (Davis, CA/Davis) and freshman Amanda Billmyer (Berwyn, PA/The Episcopal Academy). Billmyer, who went to high school just outside Philadelphia, picked up her second assist of the year. Scott added her second of the year to give the Cardinal a 2-0 cushion on an assist from senior Lindsey Dunagan (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Country Day). Temple came back to score with seven minutes remaining but Stanford was not threatened the rest of the way. Torie Russell scored off assists by Heather Walker and Steph Buchen for the Owls.
The Cardinal returns to action Friday at Penn (7:00 ET) to continue a four-game Philadelphia road trip.
