Coach Willingham Impressed With Football Squad's Resiliency

Recap | Game Notes | Final StatsOregon State Quotes

Oregon State Head Coach Dennis Erickson
"It was unbelievable all the opportunities we had today. The fumbles really hurt us, particularily in the first half. When you get a chance to score, you've got to put it in. If you give up those opportunities against a good football team on the road, you're bound to lose. We had an opportunity to win this football game and we didn't get it done."

On OSU's defensive effort: "We played pretty good defense for the first three quarters but gave up some big plays in the fourth quarter. We were tired and they made some big plays late in the game."

On Stanford: "They're a good offensive team even though it wasn't a particulary good day for them in the first three quarters. You have to give our defense credit as well. We were able to keep Troy Walters in check most of the day."

"I was surprised there was not a lot of scoring early in this game. We definitely didn't take advantage of our opportunities. It's hard when work so hard all game and you lose it at the end. It's almost worse than the other scenario (being blownout)."

Oregon State's Ken Simonton
"First of all, I can't look to anyone but me for this loss. The team has been really positive."

On the fumble: "It's my responsibility to get the ball and it's John's (Smith) responsibility to get the ball to me. That's something we'll work on next week in practice."

On Stanford's defense: "You've got to give their defense credit. We didn't get in the end zone at the end of the game when we needed to."

Oregon State wide receiver Imani Percoats
"I don't know what it is but this entire offense has to look in the mirror. I know I'm not a loser. I know that no one on this team's a loser, either."

Stanford Quotes Stanford Head Coach Tyrone Willingham
"I just felt like our play was fairly stable, I thought, throughout the whole game. I thought our guys were attacking, but we made so many mistakes early in the ballgame that we didn't allow ourselves to express, especially offensively, what we were capable of doing."

"I thought our team was very consistent and persistent in attacking them. I was very proud of the way our young men played all game."

On Troy Walters: "I know he made a lot of big plays today and that is what you would expect from a young man who is an All-American candidate. He has already proved that he is one of the top players in Stanford history so you would expect him to step up and make plays."

On falling behind: "I thought the reaction of our football team was of championship caliber. I don't think they blinked. Disappointment, yes, at having those things happen, but they just kept coming regardless of what happened during the course of the football game. They were determined to have something good happen for them... Regardless of what happened, as long as they could see there was an opportunity to win the game, they just kept coming."

"I felt like this was a critical game for us, because I think if you can get to 4-0 in the conference, depending on what happens later today, it could give you some distance between other people, and that's important when you play one of the teams that's always recognized as one of the true powers in the Pac-10 the next week. So we needed to get this football game."

Stanford Cornerback Frank Primus
On the interception: "I just had a man and kept him from going inside. He started to curve inside like a skinny post and I just rolled underneath him because I knew I had help over the top. I looked when I was supposed to look and the ball was there."

On OSU's offense: "It's difficult because of the number of wide receivers and a lot of different things that can actually happen. A lot of variations they can throw at you, a lot of responsibilities, especially I have as the nickel. So it's difficult. And then you're out there (alone) a lot."

On what the win means: "It means the world. It gives us added confidence, momentum continuing through the season. It's what's supposed to happen."

Stanford Receiver DeRonnie Pitts
"I think I played a pretty solid game. I had a couple times I had a problem getting off the bump-and-run. Todd (Husak) saw some things and we were able to exploit it. He signalled me off on a couple of audibles and just let me get the ball in my hands and do what I do best - run with the football.

On not scoring early: "It wasn't what they were doing, it was what we were doing. We had a lot of turnovers... We're just lucky that we were able to win the game despite those mistakes. I think that shows a lot of resilience for our team."

Stanford Running Back Brian Allen
"Offensive line, when we were clicking, they were just blowing people off the line."

On his first touchdown: "I just saw the hole and was like, "I could score," and I ran as fast as I could... Casey (Moore) gave me a great block, the offensive line just broke it open."

On his second touchdown: "I just saw a crease, offensive line blocked it right and I went."

On the prospect of starting next week: "I'm just looking forward to helping our team win. We have three good running backs, so whoever comes out and has a great day on Saturday should get the chance."

"We have this belief that if we just go out there and play the way we're capable of playing, no one can beat us."

Stanford Linebacker Sharcus Steen
On the goal-line stands: "We were definitely excited. I think when you get in that situation, we feel like it's our play to make... It's just another proving ground for us."

On the offense turning the ball over: "We've been in positions where we make mistakes... It's just another chance for us to get the ball back."
