PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Melissa Macomber scored five minutes into the game and Columbia held off Stanford for the remaining 65 minutes for a 1-0 win at Temple Sunday afternoon. Stanford falls to 7-7 on the season after going 3-1 in four games in four days in Pennsylvania. The Lions improve to 4-7.
Macomber scored off a pass from Nikki Campbell with 29:56 remaining in the first. The Cardinal controlled the action after that, but was unable to tie the game. Stanford out-shot the Lions 12-4, including 6-1 in the second half, and held an 18-3 advantage in penalty corners drawn, but was not able to find the back of the net.
The Cardinal returns to action Sunday at California (1:00) in a game that will decide the NorPac regular-season champion. Both teams take 4-0 conference records into the game. Stanford will host the NorPac Conference Tournament Nov. 5-7, with the winner advancing to an NCAA play-in game.
