Stanford, Calif. - A goal by junior Luke Rust in the second minute of overtime gave the Stanford men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Sacramento State today at New Maloney Field. The goal, which is Rust's team-leading seventh of the season, improved Stanford's record to 8-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
At 91:01, senior Gerard Davis had the ball on the right side of the field near the end line before sending it across the field for the open Rust. Rust one touched the ball, beating Sacramento State goalkeeper Joey Hills.
Stanford out shot the Hornets 15-to-4 in the game and Stanford goalkeeper Adam Zapala made one save in the victory. The Cardinal pressured the Sacramento State defense the entire game as Stanford recorded 12 corner kicks.
