PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - Freshman Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual HS) had three goals and an assist and classmate Amanda Billmyer (Berwyn, PA/The Episcopal Academy) picked up two goals and an assist in her homecoming, leading Stanford to a 9-0 win over Davis & Elkins College Saturday at Temple. The Cardinal improves to 7-6 on the season after winning its third game in three days on a four-game trip to Philadelphia, and is now 4-0 in NorPac play. Davis & Elkins falls to 1-6, 0-3.
Banuelos needed only 85 seconds to put the Cardinal on the board. By halftime, the two freshmen had combined for every goal as the Cardinal took a 5-0 lead. Banuelos assistsed on Billmyer's first goal and Billmyer assisted on Banuelos's third. Senior Julie Gwozdz (Weston, MA/Phillips Academy) added two assists in the first half. Banuelos moved into the team lead with seven goals on the season. Billmyer, who worked her way into the starting line-up early in the season, added substantially to her previous 1999 totals of one goal and two assists while playing only a few miles from her hometown.
Stanford added three goals early in the second half, then added one late. Sophomore Erica Swesey (Cherry Hill, NJ/Bishop Eustace HS) added two goals and an assist, senior Lindsey Dunagan (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Country Day) maintained her team lead in scoring with a goal and two assists, and senior Mallory Chambers (Tulsa, OK/Holland Hall HS) added two assists. Eight different Stanford players contributed with either a goal or an assist in the game, and Stanford had 35 shots to Davis & Elkins' three.
The Cardinal returns to action Sunday against Columbia at Penn (noon ET) to conclude a four-game Philadelphia road trip.
