October 22, 1999 (Stanford, CA) - Seventh-ranked Stanford (16-2, 9-1 Pac-10) rolled to a straight-game 15-2, 15-7, 15-6 victory over California (8-11, 3-7 Pac-10) in a Pac-10 Conference women's volleyball match on Friday at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal, who have won 15 of its last 16 matches including an exciting five-game victory over #3 Pacific last Tuesday, will face undefeated and #2 Hawaii (17-0) in a showdown of two of the nation's best teams this Sunday in Honolulu (8:00 pm, PDT).
The Cardinal extended its home win streak to 37 in a row tonight and has now won 87 of its last 88 home matches. Stanford has also beaten the Golden Bears in 33 straight matches.
Tonight's attendance of 2,223 marked the third straight time the Cardinal has drawn over 2,000 fans to a home match. Stanford has averaged 1,918 fans per match in its eight home contests this season.
Stanford hit .419 (40K, 9E, 74TA) and was dominant at the nets with 16 blocks in a match that lasted just 1:09. Conversely, the Golden Bears were held to a -.029 attack percentage (25K, 28E, 90TA) and recorded just six blocks.
Freshman outside hitter Lindsey Yamasaki (Oregon City, OR/Oregon City HS) and sophomore middle blocker Sara Sandrick (Pelham, AL/Pelham HS) each recorded eight kills for the Cardinal. Senior outside hitter Kerri Walsh (Saratoga, CA/Archbishop Mitty HS) picked up seven blocks to move into fourth-place on Stanford's all-time block list with 426 for her career. Sandrick, sophomore middle blocker Tara Conrad (Torrance, CA/West HS) and junior middle blocker Jennifer Detmer (Thousand Oaks, CA/Thousand Oaks HS) each contributed five blocks.
Cal was led by junior outside hitter Alicia Perry (Lakewood, CA/Lakewood HS) and freshman outside hitter Leah Young (Visalia, CA/Golden West HS) with six kills each.
