LONG BEACH, Calif. - Third-ranked Stanford completed a successful two-game swing in Southern California with a 6-3 victory at Long Beach State in a MPSF game on Sunday (Oct. 24).
The Cardinal, who had beaten top-ranked USC (5-3) the day before, scored four points in the second period to pull away from the fourth-ranked 49ers.
A two-pointer by Peter Hudnut at 5:46 of the second period, followed by a goal from Jeff Nesmith (3:32) and a two-pointer from Jonathan Skaalen (1:09) gave the Cardinal a 6-1 halftime lead. Freshman Nick Ellis collected eight saves in goal for Stanford.
The victory upped Stanford's record to 14-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
