Women's Soccer Falls to Cal, 2-1, in Overtime

Stanford, Calif. - The seventh-ranked Stanford women's soccer team fell to California, 2-1, in overtime today at New Maloney Field. The loss is the first for the Cardinal (13-4, 6-1 Pac-10) in Pac-10 play, while the victory pushes Cal to 11-6-1 overall and 4-3 in the Pac-10.

The game-winning goal came 10:48 into the first overtime on a goal by Regina Holan. Holan took a free kick from 25-yards out, beating Stanford goalkeeper Carly Smolak for the game-winner.

After a scoreless first half, Cal struck first with a goal in the 59th minute by Brittany Kirk. The Cardinal rebounded to tie the score at 1-1 when freshman Callie Withers (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) dribbled across the face of the goal before sending the ball into the net.

Despite the loss, Stanford out shot Cal by a margin of 17-to-8.
