No. 6 Volleyball Comes Up With Big Win Over No. 17 USC

Los Angeles, Calif. - Sixth-ranked Stanford came up with a big straight-game win (15-8, 15-6, 15-9) over #17 USC in a key Pac-10 matchup at North Gym on Friday. Freshman outside hitter Logan Tom (Salt Lake City, UT/Highland HS) led the Cardinal with 18 kills and a .351 attack percentage.

The Cardinal win for the 11th time in its last 12 matches and improve to 12-2 overall and 6-1 in the Pac-10. USC falls to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-10. Stanford has won 14 of its last 15 matches against USC.

Senior outside hitter Kerri Walsh (Saratoga, CA/Archbishop Mitty HS) contributed nine kills, four blocks and 13 digs. Walsh is now just one block shy and four digs from ranking #5 on both Cardinal career lists. Junior Lindsey Kagawa (Albany, CA/Albany HS) played the entire match at setter for Stanford and contributed 41 assists.

Stanford had seven players who hit above .350 on the night including Jennifer Detmer (1.000), Tara Conrad (.538), Lindsey Yamasaki (.500), Walsh (.412), Kagawa (.400), Sara Sandrik (.353) and Tom (.351). The Cardinal had 52 kills and just 15 errors in 110 total attempts to hit .336 as a team. Stanford has hit .300 or better eight times this season.

Junior outside hitter Kashi Cormier and sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Pahl had 10 kills each to lead the Women of Troy.

Stanford dominated the first two games of tonight's match before the Trojans rallied in game three, leading 7-6 midway through the game. However, Stanford regained control to pick up a 15-9 win in the game and close out the match

Stanford returns home for an exciting four-match homestand beginning next Thursday versus Arizona. Arizona State will visit Maples Pavilion in a match to be televised by FOX Sports Net on Friday evening. Next week, the Cardinal host #3 Pacific on Tuesday and local rival California on Friday. All matches start at 7:00 pm except the Arizona State match which will begin at 7:30 pm due to the television broadcast.
