Stanford Defeats Oregon State in Women's Hoops

March 6, 1999

STANFORD, Calif. - Regan Freuen, Stanford's lone senior on the women's basketball team, closed out her career at Maples Pavilion with a hot start, leading the Cardinal to a 73-61 win over Oregon State this afternoon.

Freuen nailed a three-pointer to start the scoring for the Cardinal, then added a second one the next trip down the court. She then tipped an Oregon State pass that gave teammate Bethany Donaphin a layup at the other end of the court. Her next defensive effort was a blocked shot that led to an easy layup, forcing the Beavers to take a time out less than four minutes into the game, Stanford leading 11-2.

Freuen had 13 points by intermission, as the Cardinal headed into the lockerroom with a 36-26 advantage. She finished the night with a game-high 21 points.

Cardinal guard Milena Flores was just one rebound away from becoming only the third player in the history of the program to record a triple double. She finished the night with 11 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists. Freshman Bethany Donaphin added 15 points to the winning effort

With the win, Stanford concludes its regular season with an 18-11 overall record. The Cardinal's 14-4 mark in the Pac-10 places the team in third in the league. Oregon State rounds out its season at 11-16 overall, 3-15 in the conference. Today's game marked the 21st consecutive Pac-10 road defeat for the Beavers.

The NCAA will announce pairings for the NCAA Tournament during Sunday's selection show, aired live by ESPN at 2:15 PST. Stanford is looking to make its 12th-straight appearance in postseason play.
