February 11, 1999

STANFORD, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Stanford Cardinal women's tennis team swept Pacific 9-0 in non-league action this afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Stanford improves to 7-0 in dual-match action and remains at 3-0 in the Pac-10 Conference. The Cardinal has swept its past five opponents. Pacific drops to 1-4 on the season.

Stanford remains at home to face No. 33 San Diego tomorrow afternoon, Fri., Feb. 12. The match was originally scheduled for 1:30 p.m. but has been moved to 1 p.m. Stanford's top-ranked men's tennis team will also compete Friday afternoon, taking on Northwestern at 1:30 p.m. Both dual meets will take place at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The women's meet will feature San Diego's Zuzana Lesenarova, the top-ranked singles player in women's tennis. She was upset last weekend by Stanford's Marissa Irvin, ranked sixth, in the semifinals of the Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships (6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-3). Irvin went on to win the tournament. The rematch should prove to be one of the best matchups of the season seen on the Cardinal's home court.
